The American Polocrosse Association is now accepting nominations for elected leadership positions for terms beginning January 1, 2027.
The APA is a volunteer-driven organization, and strong leadership is essential to supporting our members, strengthening our clubs and continuing to grow the sport of polocrosse throughout the United States.
Whether you’ve served the APA before or have never considered a national leadership position, we encourage you to consider getting involved. Self-nominations are absolutely welcome!
Positions Open for Nomination
President
Currently Virginia Carpenter Covert
The President serves as the chief executive officer of the APA and provides overall leadership and management of the organization. Responsibilities include presiding over Board and membership meetings, implementing Board directives and policies, representing the APA nationally and internationally, serving as the APA’s IPC Representative, preparing meeting agendas and reports, and providing leadership for APA operations and initiatives.
Vice President
Currently Katelyn Pierce; open due to resignation
The Vice President supports the President and is prepared to assume presidential responsibilities when necessary. The Vice President presides over meetings in the President’s absence, assists with organizational leadership, performs responsibilities assigned by the President or Board, and assumes the duties of President if the President leaves office before completing the term.
Treasurer
Currently Sarah Broadhurst
The Treasurer oversees the APA’s financial operations and fiscal responsibilities. Duties include oversight of APA funds and accounts, financial reporting, membership payments and cap fees, insurance coverage, IPC membership and other financial and administrative responsibilities.
At-Large Director – Position 1 & Position 2

At-Large Directors are voting members of the APA Board who help support committees, special projects, funding initiatives and the overall operation and promotion of the organization. These are excellent positions for members who want to become more involved and contribute their particular skills, ideas and experience to the APA.
Eastern Zone Representative
Currently Sarah Desai
The Eastern Zone Representative serves as a communication and support link between Eastern Zone clubs and members and the APA Board. Responsibilities include communicating with clubs, bringing member questions and concerns to the Board, sharing Board information with the zone, coordinating regional activities and calendars, supporting the Regional Championship and serving on designated APA committees.
Central Zone Representative
Currently Ashley Barbour
The Central Zone Representative provides the same important connection for Central Zone clubs and members, helping facilitate communication between the zone and APA Board, supporting regional activities and events, responding to member needs and participating in APA committees and initiatives.
Sarah has indicated that she is willing to continue supporting the APA in a bookkeeping capacity, so the incoming Treasurer will have bookkeeping assistance. We are particularly interested in finding someone who can manage the administrative and oversight responsibilities of the position, including insurance renewals and communications, monitoring the APA Treasurer email account, organizing and uploading documents to the APA Google Drive, and ensuring the responsibilities of the Treasurer’s office are completed.
You Don’t Have to Be a Top-Level Player to Be an APA Leader
One thing we especially want our members to understand is that APA leadership is not reserved for our highest-rated or most accomplished players.
Your playing level does not determine your ability to make a meaningful contribution to this organization. In fact, many of the qualities that make someone an excellent Board member have very little to do with what happens on the polocrosse field.
For 2027, we are particularly looking for leaders who are motivated, professional, mature, positive, reasonable and solutions-oriented.
We need people who are willing to attend meetings consistently, ask thoughtful questions, listen to different perspectives, contribute ideas, take responsibility for projects and follow through on commitments.
You don’t need to come into a position knowing everything about APA governance or operations. A willingness to learn, participate and work collaboratively is far more important.
Most of all, we’re looking for people who genuinely care about the APA and want to help us strengthen our organization and grow the sport of polocrosse in the United States.

And if you are interested, please don’t wait for someone else to ask you. Self-nominations are encouraged.
Under the APA Working Manual, Senior members may nominate themselves or another Senior member in good standing for an elected position.
All nominations must be submitted by October 1, 2026.

The APA’s annual election begins November 1 and concludes November 15, with newly elected officers and directors taking office on January 1, 2027.

The future of the APA depends on members who are willing to get involved. You don’t have to be the best player on the field. You don’t have to have all the answers. And you don’t have to have served on the APA Board before.
You do need to be willing to show up, ask questions, listen, contribute, follow through and work constructively with others.
